Nevada Skipper
Hesperia nevada

Observation date: June 13, 2025
Submitted by: DeepSkyKelly
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Yes, my suggestion is a bold (and perhaps misguided) one. I am aware this would be a bit out of range. Referencing Butterflies of New Mexico, I note that "the underside ground color is green and the last white spot on the ventral postmedian band is offset inward." This individual so strongly resembles the 1st and 4th Juba photos in BONM that I have a hard time looking past it. I was not able to get a good upper-side shot, but what shows in this photo on the forewing underside might suggest that the black border is jagged and well-defined. The white postmedian chevron looks particularly jagged to me--not entirely pushing into white veins (like Uncas)--and is the main reason for my trouble with an ID. My second (and maybe better) guess is Western Branded. I know there is a lot of variability.
