Callippe Fritillary
Speyeria callippe

Observation date: June 12, 2025
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I am choosing Edwards based on strong green colors under wings; else I know Mormon can have this kind of coloration as well (and a book I have said Calippe is another contender), I just thought it looked more like the Edwards photos in the Bamona gallery, as did the top of the wings.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Callippe Fritillary...a newly emerged male. It is easy to positively ID Edwards' by the solid black wing borders (or mostly solid black) while callippe has orange between the wing veins at the margin...the green underside will always ID callippe from other species with such wing margins...and edwardsii is a larger frit.
