Observation notes: In the hills above Malibu Creek in the Santa Monica Mountains. Several of these loitering around Coast Live Oak host plants. Partly cloudy day with gusting winds in the 70’s F. Note the chocolate brown topside color (pic 2) which is an ID point vs Orangish for Hedgerow Hairstreak. This one was feeding at California Buckwheat flowers despite the wind but flew up onto a high branch of a Coast Live Oak tree after being disturbed. (See last pic) They tend to prefer Oak trees that had new leaf growth recently.
