Observation notes: Several butterflies observed feeding on Monarda fistulosa, plants locally abundant in a meadow within ponderosa pine and Douglas fir forest. A population of Viola canadensis grows upstream in the same valley. These butterflies are reliably seen in this meadow in the summer.

Coordinator notes: Your suggest ID is correct...the individual, a female, has dark eyes (brown)...hesperis and atlantis that might also be around have blue-gray eyes...if you did not already know that? Best to determine that at the time with natural light conditions. Mike
