Observation notes: We recognized this large checkered butterfly by the big pale spots on the wing tips before it landed. It landed on a tree & I took this photo just as it was about to fly. We were on Tamarind Trail at John Pennekamp Coral Reef St Pk, Key Largo, FL. It is in the center of photo at the top showing ventral.
