Cloudless Sulphur
Phoebis sennae

Observation date: August 29, 2024
Submitted by: Jbanks
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I was working outside and this butterfly landed on my arm and wouldn't leave. It probably stayed on me for over 10 minutes and didn't act afraid like most of them do.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Thanks for contributing! While the Clouded Sulphur is similar in name to the Cloudless Sulphur, it is a different species that actually belongs to a separate genus. This individual is a Cloudless Sulphur, which can be differentiated through the messier pattern of markings on the ventral surface (although some male Cloudless can be almost unmarked ventrally), different wing shape, and lack of prominent black dorsal wing borders which are typically visible through the wing in ventral views of Clouded Sulphurs.
