Observation notes: On a small hill top near Monte Cristo Campgroung, UT. Lots of nectar lots of different host plants including paint Brush. doc and many other plants in a large clearing. lots of nectar. sunny warm dry. camp host said they had a really hot spell and it was drying out the plants in the area.

Coordinator notes: Thanks for the patience on the checkerspots. This one here is the subspecies Euphydryas anicia maria. I'm still working on the ID #1390273 you submitted. Those two pics of that sighting submitted are actually two different butterflies and I'm hoping I can ID them as same subspecies showing male/female rather than two separate subspecies at same site that day. If I find they are two separate subspecies then you'd have to re-submit those pics separately. The open winged pic of those two of #1390273 is giving me a tad difficulty in identifying. But I have a few other book sources of mine to view. Thanks, JAMES STEEN
