Observation notes: Feeding on a strawflower (Xerochrysum bracteatum), a plant native to Australia, on our back deck. Strawflowers were previously classified as a member of the genus Bracteantha but now are in the Xerochrysum genus. This Australian native is a part of the Asteraceae family, a group that includes many daisy-type flowers. The Butterfly was disturbed, but returned and stayed to feed on these same flowers for more than half and hour. The right forewing was missing a bit of material as was the left hindwing.
