Observation notes: I'm afraid I don't know how to distinguish between these checkerspots; they seem very similar to me in appearance, especially given possible variability in both. Sagebrush / dry/open hillside habitat.

Coordinator notes: This is anicia (rorina...like I previously verified)...yes, similar to editha which is also in the area of this sighting. Editha is typically smaller and flies before anicia most seasons. I would suggest you compare/study photos of editha you can find on the BAMONA website. Also try finding them on this website...www.butterfliesofamerica.com or just google/bing search Euphydryas editha. Mike
