Sierra Nevada Parnassian
Parnassius behrii

Observation date: September 14, 2023
Submitted by: Robert Gorman
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Diane and I found This and the Sierra Sulphur, also Rock Slide Checker Spot, Edith's Copper, Ruddy Copper, Luster Copper, and Arctic Sierra Blue, Shasta Blue. Very Cold where these were and there seemed to be males chasing this female. This Butterfly kept going to what appeared to be the host and bending its abdomen down to the plants while landing on them. this went on for quite some time. It would sun it's self and seem to rest before going on to the next plant. Felt lucky to find this and observe this behavior! Mostly sunny Semi warm Maybe mid to low fifties at about 11,500 ft. By Dana Lake.
