Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
Papilio glaucus

Observation date: August 16, 2023
Submitted by: WYbutterflyer1
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: At the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. This was a very fresh female. Feeding on flowers at the same shrub (I think it is a late-blooming lilac) at the same time was another very beaten up female eastern tiger swallowtail. I've photographed 4 eastern tiger swallowtails at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens this year, and 7 over the last 4 years, so I think they might be more common than records suggest. And I have a special note for the Wyoming BAMONA reviewer, J Martineau. We are moving to Fort Collins, CO next month and this eastern tiger swallowtail will likely be my last BAMONA submission from Wyoming. I've submitted numerous records of both butterflies and moths from other states, but with a few exceptions the only prompt responses I ever get are from Mr. Martineau. As an example, I'm still waiting on confirmations of two moths I photographed in CO last year, both of which I am certain I provided correct species ID to begin with when I submitted them..

Coordinator notes: I'm sorry to hear you won't be submitting as much for WY and are having trouble with submissions in other places! All of the reviewers are volunteers, so it's likely there is variability in the amount of time each has to go through submissions. Please don't be discouraged and continue submitting sightings. Information from submissions provides important data on ranges and phenology in our changing environment. Good luck with your move! Jason Martineau
