Observation notes: Very cool! Feeding from the same roadside patch of Hemp Dogbane where this species was reported by Christopher Rustay a few days before I found this. This was a large (significantly bigger than nearby Juniper hairstreaks) and docile hairstreak, often staying at the same flowerheads for minutes at a time without moving very much. I find it a bit odd that this species hadn't been recorded in Bernalillo county for eight years (at least not online) before it was found this year. It must be quite uncommon in the Sandias.

Coordinator notes: Behr's is a bit enigmatic. Joe and Rebecca showed me a colony or two in the Sandias maybe 15 years ago, but seemingly (to me) in places not frequently visited by butterflyers. I suspect it is picky about habitat, perhaps that habitat is diminished by lack of fire, perhaps it does not fly every year. also, advent of iNat could change the game a little.
