Aphrodite Fritillary
Speyeria aphrodite

Observation date: July 04, 2023
Submitted by: tjay13
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: What a cool location this was coming off of the Johnson Mesa heading east. Several Butterfly milkweed plants, singing Dickcissels. In this case the veins don't seem to show swelling leading me to Aphrodite. Had wondered if we had a 'Raton Mesa' Frit initially, but doesn't seem right for a Northwestern. At least 3 that all appeared to be the same flying roadside.

Coordinator notes: that area is absolute dynamite, with lots of good stuff. Aphrodite has amber eyes compared to the gray/blue of Raton Mesa Frit
