Observation notes:
Yesterday (6/20/2023) I briefly spotted two Great Spangled Fritillary butterflies fluttering among some common milkweeds that are in bloom in our backyard. Unfortunately, no camera so no photo.
However, today (6/21/2023) I saw one Great Spangled Fritillary butterfly nectaring in the same area, and had time to grab my camera and snap a few shots. The butterfly wasn’t very cooperative in terms of nicely posing for a photo, but the “triptych” I’ve included here I think is sufficient to document this sighting.
This is just shy of a year of a similar sighting (ID #1329262) in our yard on 6/23/2022.
This time the temperature was 57°F with the humidity at 100%, the air pressure was 28.80 inches and dropping slowly, with a light 6 mph breeze from the northeast under cloudy skies.
