Coordinator notes: Jon...your suggested ID may be correct but I can't positively ID the caterpillar other than it is a sphinx moth immature. The White-lined Sphinx has three larval color morphs (green, yellow and black) but this black one has less yellow markings than the one I have a picture of (Pl. 63 of the Moths of Western North America by Powell-Opler, 2009). So I have to send this to the 'cannot identify' category and perhaps one of the moth coordinators out there will ID confirm it later for you. You could resubmit the sighting and specific "Moth" as the category and that should go to Chuck Harp who IDs the moth sightings in Colorado. He may or may not ID larva...many times not because so many larva look alike, especially with moths! Might be quicker than waiting on the unknown listings which are considerable. Mike
