Observation notes: Mixed forest. (Could it be a green comma? The row of lighter spots on the underside edge of the forewing and no bumps at the ends of the "C".)

Coordinator notes: Although Greens can definitely be found in your area this time of year, this individual is an Eastern Comma. I agree the “comma” does have a different appearance than the typical specimen. A Green Comma would have the classic greenish-gray chevrons lining the ventral side of the wings near the margins. Dorsally, it would have much darker wing margins, bolder black spots throughout the wings, a what appears to be brighter yellow-white submarginal spots. Finally, the wing edges usually appear much more “ragged” or “scalloped” in a Green when compared to other Comma species. -jmgesell
