Syedra Hairstreak
Strephonota syedra

Observation date: December 01, 2022
Submitted by: Grian A. Cutanda
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: In the Earth Charter International Conference 2022, at the United Nations University for Peace, Costa Rica. This small butterfly entered in the hall where the conference was held and rested on my left hand for about one minute. The man with which I was talking David Feldman, make the photos with his mobile phone.

Coordinator notes: (1) The photos are lacking in quality for good identification and thus I plugged a couple into PhotoShop Elements to help ID. (2) The suggested ID is not correct because this sighting does not have the two gold or orange spots that the Cupido comyntas has, plus it has the two lower black spots that Cupido comyntas does not have and a broad b&w band. (3) Though similar to a couple of Scrub-Hairstreaks, I find the closest match to be the Strephonota syedra due to the thick white band and the oblong single orange spot.
