Cassius Blue
Leptotes cassius

Observation date: July 24, 2022
Submitted by: dvollmar
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I was recently told an identifying feature of Marina Blue is the 5 blocks of the forewing postmedian band are all aligned. This individual seems to meet that criteria. If so I think this is a first FL record for the species.
Status: Resident
Verified by: John Calhoun
Verified date: January 02, 2023
Coordinator notes: The Marine Blue tends to be more strongly marked, especially on the hindwing below. In that species, the bands on the ventral forewing look more like they are dark with white outlines, rather than dark bands on a white background. Also, note that the fifth spot of the outer band is slightly misaligned. Here is a similar individual of the Cassius Blue from Key Largo: https://www.butterfliesofamerica.com/imagehtmls/Lycaenidae/Leptotes_cassius_theonus_Key_Largo_Monroe_Co_FL_USA_11-VIII-03_2_i.htm. Here is another from the Keys with a more aligned band: https://www.butterfliesofamerica.com/imagehtmls/Lycaenidae/Leptotes_cassius_theonus_Bahia_Honda_SP_Monroe_Co_FL_USA_10-VIII-03_i.htm
