Persius Duskywing
Erynnis persius

Observation date: June 23, 2022
Submitted by: stevecary
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: seen in valley bottom setting, so I suspect afranius
Status: Resident
Verified by: mikefisher
Verified date: February 15, 2023
Coordinator notes: Steve...really hard to determine the two from photos much of the time but checking my topo the location appears to be around 9000 ft. which is an area where persius normally prevails and into the montane zone it doesn't seem to make much difference habit-wise whether they hilltop or fly in meadows where there are nectar sources and hosts. Best to take vouchers because the tail can be checked and is distinct in each species! Slowly getting the surprisingly large submissions after I already cleaned them up from the summer. Don't know if you heard but Paul Opler has passed away. Mike
