Pink-spotted hawkmoth
Agrius cingulata

Observation date: November 29, 2022
Submitted by: Articfox
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The insect was inside an enclosed building to which the only entrances were a small garden with grass and palm trees. It was extremely still, even after moved or touched, and it only managed to beat its wings a little bit. It didn’t respond to anything until the chance of flying away (after being carried outside the building) came by and it flew away. It is also interesting to see that the moth had some sort of damage in one of its wings. I have never seen one of these in Costa Rica and it is honestly very interesting considering it is normally seen in North America.
