Cofaqui Giant-Skipper
Megathymus cofaqui

Observation date: November 09, 2022
Submitted by: jamsmif
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I did not see the skipper itself, but instead found evidence of the silken tent within which the caterpillar pupates. I found two intact silken tents that were still connected to the ground. Frass was present at the hole of each of these tents. I am uncertain if these are active tents. I also located an older tent that was lying prostrate on the ground. All of the tents were found inches from the bases/stems of Yucca filamentosa. I surveyed at least 10 Y. filamentosa and only located tents on two of them. Both were found within 15 feet of each other. Tube b (as noted in the photo titles) extended roughly 3inches above the substrate it descended into.
