Observation notes: Ventral wing images only of a ground-perched buckeye (leaf litter and mown Bermuda grass); please note the overall ventral wing color which has a pink cast. This site is located along the Rio Grande on the overflow channel. The morning was sunny, breezy, and warm.

Coordinator notes: I'm not sure what this is. it could be at one extreme end of what Dark Buckeye can look like. However, it looks much more like Twintip Buckeye (J. stemosa), so I accept it as that. the problem with this that stemosa only occurs in far SC Texas. Buckeyes to wander, however, and I do recall that this past summer there was a period of major atmospheric flow toward Las Cruces from the SE. that also lines up with the lower Rio Grande valley, so it is not out of the question that some J. stemosa made their way all the way to Las Cruces. Let's put that out there and see what reaction we get.
