Field Crescent
Phyciodes pulchella

Observation date: September 07, 2022
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I find it crazy that the undersides of this species can vary so much -- I'm assuming all of these are Field Crescent because I don't know what else they'd be, but the patterns/colors between 1 and 5 are nothing alike. These were very abundant all over this area.

Coordinator notes: Your suggested ID(s) are correct. Yes, the underside varies considerably in the late summer and early fall flight of the Field. You can find the Pearly Crescent in late summer and fall too. They have more of a full patch of yellow on the hindwings above without as much black separation that is easily seen in your photos. Mike
