Observation date: August 07, 2022
Submitted by: twofried
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Female. When I saw this bug on 8/7/22 I thought it was a female Purplish Copper that had lost all of it's scales. Tonight (8/27) while reviewing targets for Taos County, I was looking at various images of female Blue Copper and remembered this butterfly. Pretty sure this is my 100th butterfly species for Taos County.

Coordinator notes: darned if you aren't right about this! the pattern of dark spots is an exact match for BC female, and the VHW lacks the zigzag orange submarginal line of Purplish. Purplish can be very pale after a couple weeks, almost bleached. but this is Blue Copper, albeit a weird one. maybe just the angle of light . . .
Checklist region(s): United States, New Mexico, Taos County
