Green Comma
Polygonia faunus

Observation date: August 18, 2022
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Based on this area being more deciduous vs coniferous and near streams, I'm guessing this is Satyr rather than Green. Also because of the spot in the center of the hind wing I decided to rule out Hoary.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: No, this is the Green Comma...Satyr is bigger and lighter colored above and without the distinct dark border around the wings...also the small light spots at the edge of that border on the hindwings is diagnostic as well and will separate it from any Hoary or Satyr Comma. Mike
