Marine Blue
Leptotes marina

Observation date: August 07, 2022
Submitted by: Patricia12
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Laying eggs on the Calliandra (Powder Puff tree) flower buds. Caterpillars eat the buds first then the new foliage.
Status: Resident
Verified by: Ken Davenport
Verified date: August 18, 2022
Coordinator notes: I accept the butterfly as a Marine Blue but I don't accept that the caterpillar is necessarily a Marine Blue. Pink Powder Puff is also used as a larval host by Large Orange Sulphurs and may be why those show up there! Please don't mix caterpillars with adult butterflies unless the butterfly is to show me what the caterpillar become to confirm ID-Ken Davenport
