Orgyia antiqua

Observation date: August 05, 2022
Submitted by: Luna-Linuche.76
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Numerous caterpillars were seen slowly crawling on the deck railings & boardwalk at the Port of Brookings Harbor in Oregon at the harbor front - during an art fair by the docks. Plants below the docks were heavily defoliated. Weather was warm & sunny. When touched, the caterpillars sometimes curled into a ball. The caterpillars even crawled on people (up to their necks), & when swatted - could "sting", resulting in an itchy red rash.
