Observation notes: Not all markings line up perfectly with what I see in Kauffman (no white spots on abdomen, for instance), but given that there's so much variability, I'll go with this guess.

Coordinator notes: Your suggested ID is correct. We only have one species in the Rocky Mountain region (E. anicia). Since all checkerspots are variable, the names have become more specific for species and locations where they occur but still referring to them as the "Variable Checkerspot" will still easily identify what you are talking about.
