Coordinator notes: Since only chalcedona is confirmed in the Trinity Alps and not colon, I have to go with that. None of the specimens I sent in for DNA work are from the Trinities and collecting is not permitted in state parks in which some of the areas you were in may be.-Ken Davenport See Shapiros paper on the Trinity Alps in the Journal of Research of the Lepidoptera in the 1979-1981 time frame for names for Euphydryas. A subspecies of chalcedona up there has been named since in 1998, yours may or may not be that, that depends on specific locality.
