Lilac-bordered Copper
Lycaena nivalis

Observation date: July 30, 2022
Date notes: Warm and mostly sunny
Submitted by: falco1
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Elevation above 7000 along the Wright's Lake Road just before Lyons Creek crossing. Damp fairly small flowery glade near the road. I could see the trailhead just down the road and the creek crossing was just beyond that. Not sure of zone being new to the area. However, dominated by mixed conifers.

Coordinator notes: It could be a Mariposa Copper but I would need a photo of the other side. It would also be helpful to provide an actual locality name, elevation and whether in the Canadian or Hudsonian Life Zones. Open meadows are not what Mariposa Coppers like, they prefer small sunny glades near water. The upperside looks like Mariposa but can be confused with nivalis and helloides that look similar-Ken Davenport After reviewing more field marks separating nivalis from mariposa, I think your original choice was correct...Ken Davenport
