Coronis Fritillary
Speyeria coronis

Observation date: July 19, 2022
Submitted by: Paul Prappas
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: A pair were nectaring on thistle growing along Highland Drive. Features that support Aphrodite ID; the pale ground between the basal spots and marginal chevrons is fairly narrow. Also, marginal chevrons are pointed and not rounded. The silver spotting on the HW seem a bit thick for Aphrodite, but these can vary. Also seems to be lots of orange ground on the basal area of the VFW, which is right for Aphrodite. Have considered Zerene and Atlantis....Beyond these features, I'm open for more input. While not easily visible, photo #2 does show an amber eye, supporting Aphrodite over Atlantis.
