Yellow-necked Caterpillar Moth
Datana ministra

Observation date: July 28, 2022
Submitted by: DRDeakin47
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This cluster of caterpillars was noted by my wife yesterday on a white paper birch. We have not seen these in our garden before now. Upon closer inspection we observed a number of branches had been defoliated. We also found a branch with a cluster of very small, about ⅛ inch caterpillars. Our white birch tends to have numerous small branch die out, that and we have not had rain in three weeks, contributed to our not noticing the caterpillar activity sooner. contributed to not noticing the caterpillar activity.
