Spalding's Dotted-Blue
Euphilotes spaldingi

Observation date: July 19, 2022
Date notes: Hot day. Butterflies were flying early in the morning.
Submitted by: Paul Prappas
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Worn individual. Stroke of luck that I was able to get photos of both dorsal and ventral sides. Wasn't until I studied the photographs that I recognized it as a "Euphilotes" though with orange marginal spots on both FW and HW. Swift Guide mentions Spalding's as being the only Euphilotes with orange on both wings. Dorsal pattern matches Spalding's female perfectly. Range is also correct. Photographed on its host plant, Redroot Buckwheat (Eriogonum racemosum).
Status: Resident
