Appalachian Tiger Swallowtail
Papilio appalachiensis

Observation date: April 29, 2022

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Note the larger size of a couple of the tigers compared to an Eastern in the right foreground.

Coordinator notes: In 1st pic, I'd identify the top center and lower right as P. appalachiensis while the, though larger, specimen on lower left hints more toward P. glaucus on hindwing spot shape and less continuous wing spot bar on forewing edge. The 2nd pic the hindwing spots of this make specimen tends toward P. glaucus, yet strips are rather thin as in P. appalachiensis. Is there a P. appalachiensis X glaucus possibility? I think it's likely possible. Thank you! JAMES STEEN
