Observation notes: Having recently emerged, these small checkerspots are present in moderate numbers in a few lower canyon locations along the Organ Mountains, including Achenbach Canyon. Monsoon rainfall resulted in the flowering of wire lettuce/skeletonweed, croton, stinging serpent, umbrellawort, and other plant species from which the checkerspots nectared, displayed, and courted. This posting depicts pair bonding/courtship flights based on wire lettuce/skeletonweed nectar plants. The midday was hot, sunny, and with light wind and gusts.
