Observation notes: Having recently emerged, these small checkerspots are present in moderate numbers in a few lower canyon locations along the Organ Mountains, including Soledad Canyon. Monsoon rainfall resulted in a second flowering of Apache plume tall shrubs (common shrubs of arroyo bottoms) from which the checkerspots nectared, displayed, and courted. Relatively, these flowers are extremely small, compare the diameter to the wingspread of the small checkerspots. The midday was hot, partly sunny, and with light wind and gusts.
