Observation notes: An individual checkerspot taking nectar from a flowering whiteball acacia shrub in the arroyo bottom near the beginning of the Soledad Canyon Trail on the footslope of the Organ Mountains. It was foraging with a group of tiny checkerspots, one of which appeared to be engaging it in "courtship" (image #6). The mid-day was hot, under bright sunshine, and with moderate wind gusts.
