Observation notes: The smaller checkerspots would not land with their wings open. So this image captures the greatest number of angles of what are all presumably the same species. I did get pictures earlier in the day of a checkerspot that matched these that had its wings open so hopefully, if an ID can be contrived from these images then a sighting record from several hours earlier should be used.
