Observation notes: Came across this aggregation of swallowtails in the middle of an intersection of gravel logging roads. There were between 10 and 14 individuals mostly clustered as seen in the photos. I immediately recognized there were at least three species - Papilio zelicaon, P. eurymedon and one or both of P. canadensis and P. rutulus. After consulting Butterflies of the Pacific Northwest I think both P. canadensis and P. rutulus are indeed present. Of canadensis it says "uppermost DHW crescent is orange". That is indeed discernible on at least one individual. They were so engrossed in sipping I drove my truck alongside within inches and photographed them out the window. Only when I stepped out did any stir and then barely.
