Observation notes: Pair of sootywings mating along the Arroyo Trail on the footslope of the Organ Mountains. The pair used several perches (dry twigs, gravel, Wright's beebalm leaves, hackberry tree leaves) as well as my finger as I tried to hold back intervening branches for a clearer image. The early afternoon was hot, humid, breezy, and bright under a high overcast sky.
