Magdalena Alpine
Erebia magdalena

Observation date: June 28, 2022
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I saw several of these seemingly pure black butterflies flying over the rock boulders and talus at between 11,300 and 11,800 ft. They would land between boulders or briefly on rocks but then quickly fly again. I could never get close to one, and I'm not sure this photo is good enough for i.d., because it was quite far away and fully zoomed in, then cropped a lot.
