Coordinator notes: This is the common Hoary Comma (or Zephyr Comma...Polygonia gracilis zephyrus), although the Green Comma is not uncommon in the area of your sighting. The Green Comma has a more mottled pattern on the underside, little striated in appearance (more commonly seen in the late summer, Aug.-Sept. in mountain forest woodlands 8-9000 feet...they like thistle flowers but also late blooming asters).
