Ilavia Hairstreak
Satyrium ilavia

Observation date: May 21, 2022
Submitted by: Robert Gorman
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: On Scrub oak Sunny warm day
Status: Resident
Verified by: James Steen
Verified date: June 07, 2022
Coordinator notes: Definitely not a worn Strymon melinus. The only Hairsteak that fully resembles the specimen in picture is Satyrium ilavia. I'm positive this is a female of the species S. ilavia. The fawn coloring of underside, faint traces of any markings, the zig-zag in white/black just above the blue mark on tail. An internet search plus two publications I use of NA Lepidoptera clinched this for me. Thank you! JAMES STEEN
