Pahaska Skipper
Hesperia pahaska

Observation date: May 26, 2022
Submitted by: Joshua C
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Seen in a prickly pear bloom on the front lawn of a suburban yard. The yard is very close to the Sandia foothills, right near a canyon just south of Embudito Canyon. The lack of nectar plants is causing some interesting butterflies to wander into urban areas in search of food. The person who lives here had Leda ministreak, Viereck's skipper, and Margarita skipper in the yard earlier this week. I think this is a female Pahaska skipper but I'm not certain.

Coordinator notes: the marks are pretty good for Pahaska, as good as they can get, which is never 100%, but close enough in this case. I agree, a good butterfly garden on the edge of green space can be a nice refuge in dry times, thanks to you and the gardener!
