Coordinator notes: Somewhat similar to the Sagebrush Checkerspot, the Anicia Checkerspot (aka Variable Checkerspot) has different shaped wings. The forewings of the Sagebrush have a wingtip slightly lobed in outline while the outside of the these wings of Anicia is uniform to the tip. The Anicia in your photo is subspecies wecoeut, found in "we"stern "Co"lorado and "e"astern "Ut"ah. Very pretty three-color toned variety (red, yellow and black). Mike
