Chlosyne fulvia

Observation date: May 16, 2022
Submitted by: Cactuswren1976
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Flying, alighting on the dirt road, and basking. This species is generally found in pinyon/juniper habitat at considerably lower elevations, so it was a surprise to find one here at 11,100 ft. elevation in mixed conifer habitat! Also, we did not see any Indian Paintbrush plants, the species' foodplant at this location.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: this has to be an altitude record for this species. there are paintbrushes that live above treeline in the Sangres, but usually they host Euphydryas anicia.
