Harford's Sulphur
Colias harfordii

Observation notes: Temperature was high sixties to low seventies on a sunny day. Time of sighting was approximately 12:50pm - 1:15pm One of the most difficult butterflies or moths I’ve ever had to catch, every time it landed, it immediately got up and flew away, which might explain why there aren’t very many good photos of this species. After 15 minutes and a couple thorn bushes later, I caught it at the bottom of a hill next to the road off of Loch Leven. Very fast flier, some males spotted fighting with their own species several times, seemed to be very territorial. A couple individuals would fly very fast in a single big loop about 1/10 mile wide, so a same individual would be seen multiple times in the same place on different occations. Also one of the strongest, best, and precise flying butterflies I’ve ever seen with very few wing beats per yard. It seems like it would often get misidentified as another Colias species such as eurytheme.
