Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This is not my first observation of this specie, but it is the first time one held still for some camera shots. This is an area on the western slope of the "Volcano" in Calavera Open Space Preserve, and the only area where I have ever seen these. It was flitting around Buckwheat plants, interacting with some honeybees that seemed to find the butterfly an annoyance. It hung out on individual blossoms turning around, opening and closing its wings, until evicted by the bees.
