Observation notes: Individual perching on and taking nectar from flowers of tamarisk trees ~10-15m tall. These trees have become established along a reach of the Rio Grande east bank. Later in the season, this group of trees is a popular site attractive to pairs of desert viceroys. Pipevine swallowtails have been observed occasionally along the Rio Grande since mid-March. The mid-day was cool, under full sun, and with a N-to-S gusting wind.
