Observation notes: Perching on a broken birch stem apparently sipping sap. South-facing slope. Edge zone - Douglas-fir and Ponderosa Pine forest uphill, road opening on downhill side. Saw 3 or 4 here. Mostly cloudy with short sunny breaks.
